Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to audition?

Yes, when you are ready. Potential new members choose a piece from the choir repertoire to audition with. This is an informal audition stood around the piano as part of a quartet.

Do I need to read music?

Music reading is not essential. We provide rehearsal tracks so you can learn your part at home

Do I have to sing from memory?

Performing from memory is something we work towards for our competition and concert pieces because it creates a more impactful, connected performance. However, this is a skill you develop over time with the Choir. Our Learn and Perform event in April May allows you to sing with music throughout.

What if I can't attend a rehearsal?

Regular attendance is important because every voice matters in a small choir. We understand that life happens, but consistent commitment helps everyone sound their best. There are some compulsory rehearsals before major performances and competitions.

What voice parts do you need?

We're particularly looking for sopranos at the moment, but we welcome all female voices. If you're not sure which part you are, Nat will help you find the right fit.

When and where do you rehearse?

Every Thursday evening, 7.30 - 10pm (Learn and Perform = 7.30- 9pm). Christchurch, Christchurch Park, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5TZ

How much does it cost?

Monthly membership is £30, which covers venue hire, music and musical direction. Additional costs may apply for concerts, competitions and festivals, though we try to keep these affordable.

I haven't sung for years. Can I still join?

Absolutely! Many of our members returned to singing after a break. What matters is your current commitment and willingness to develop, not your recent experience. Our Learn & Perform event id perfect for returning singers

What age range are your members?

We welcome adult singers of all ages. Currently, our members range from their 30s to their 70s

Can I  come and listen to rehearsal?

We would prefer potential members to join our Learn and Perform event:

This will give you a real feel for singing with us. If you'd like to visit outside this event please get in contact via contactus@impromptu.org.uk
